Singer-Songwriter Whitney K. Lane of La Porte, Texas and musical group Papi Chulo (J.J. Moreno and Joffre Correa) of Allen, Texas join the roster of Don’t mess with Texas musical legends who represent the iconic “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign.
Whitney K. Lane’s, “It Starts with You” and Papi Chulo’s “Tira la Basura en el Bote” were chosen among more than 170 Texans’ who submitted their original 30-second song featuring the campaign’s anti-litter message. The winners now become a part of the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Strait, Willie Nelson, LeAnn Rimes and Grupo Fantasma who have represented the campaign in the past to share its message of keeping Texas litter-free.
The “Don’t mess with Texas” Song Search Contest was presented in partnership with iHeart and Gibson Brands. Country superstars, the Randy Rogers Band, and Latin pop and norteño stars, Las Fenix, who were featured in the 2018 “Don’t mess with Texas” campaign, also lent their time and talent to help discover the campaign’s newest performers.
Each of the winners won a prize package that includes: a 2018 Gibson Guitar, donated by Gibson Brands and valued at $2,400; an exclusive performance at an iHeart Live Music Lounge, donated by iHeart; and the opportunity to be the featured performer in a “Don’t mess with Texas” campaign TV commercial and appearances in the campaign’s radio and digital ads.
