John Baumann was already garnering a lot of buzz coming in to 2017, but after the release of his 11 track album “Proving Grounds” this past summer, his stature of being one of our scene’s most promising songwriters was cemented.
One track in particular that really demonstrated Baumann’s impeccable writing was the extremely-personal, deeply-emotional, “Old Stone Church”. Written about how he and his family dealt with the passing of his father, the song dives in to grief, denial, and spirituality.
