Texas/Red Dirt Up-And-Comers Start Fantasy Football League

One of the many things I love about our scene is the camaraderie of the artists and how tight-knit our community can be. Our artists hang out together on their off days, start meme wars on Twitter, get in prank wars on the road, write together, song swap together, and are generally friends in real life.  Many artists befriend each other when they’re starting out, as they’re playing the same places, are on the same bills, and are going through similar ups and downs.  Now there’s one more element being added to that friendship amongst a crop of up-and-comers….Fantasy Football!

Grant Gilbert, Kolby Cooper, Chris Colston,  Triston Marez, Dylan Wheeler, Shea Abshier, Gio Yanez (of Giovanne & the Hired Guns) and Mason Lively have created their own Fantasy Football league, fully equipped with public trash-talking via Twitter and side bets for their weekly matches.

The league was created by Grant Gilbert, who told us “This idea came to me because really we just wanted to do something where we could all hang out together, have some camaraderie between everyone,  get some friendly competition going and continue to get to know everyone outside of shows. Being on the road so much can really be hectic at times and can make it hard to hang out, which all of us in this league can attest to. Everyone seemed to be down and enthusiastic about it pretty fast, and the trash talk started right away. We all have the same goals in mind and we’re going to be playing a ton of shows together throughout the years so why not have some fun with it with football. All of us here are trying to make it in this business, and it’s important that we try to do that together if we want to be successful. And what better to do that than with some football!”

Apparently, the group isn’t having any trouble throwing out ideas for the loser. “We already had the idea that the loser gets an ass-tat of a Cowboy hat, making it an “asshat” but I’m definitely out on that. So I refuse to get last, “Gilbert continued. “But I think the bets should be loser has to cover the winner’s song that week. Just some fun little things like that. I’m sure there will be more and more ideas along the way, but several of us said until we get past that opening band budget, the money bets won’t get too big. Haha, one thing I do know is we are excited to get this season underway in what we are hoping will become a yearly thing!”

The tweets have already gotten underway and we encourage you to follow along and throw out your own suggestions as to what the loser of each match has to do!
