Texas Music Pickers Songwriter Challenge

Alright all you aspiring songwriters….here’s a challenge for you!

We’re going to give you 3 weeks to write a song with 10 random words, video yourself performing it, upload it to YouTube, and then send it our way! We will then take all the videos, categorize them by the sets of words that the artists chose, and showcase them right here on TexasMusicPickers.com.  The past challenges have turned out some fantastic results and it’s always so interesting to see the variety of songs that are submitted; even though a portion of the words are similar.

Here are the sets of random words you can choose from:

  • Random Word Set #1: fog, pain, prayer, goal, clock, proud, cut, smoke, strong, trust
  • Random Word Set #2: hill, square, remain, west, mirror, test, budge, limit, write, side

Here’s an example from Casey Shaw of the Warhorses (definitely recommend checking them out BTW), from a challenge we did a while back.

His words were: Career    Branch     Top       Laughter      Go       Above     Engine     Pencil      Lying     Condition

So here’s all you have to do in order to take part in the challenge and corresponding video showcase:

  1. Choose Random Word Set #1 or Random Word Set #2
  2. Write a song that contains ALL of the words from the set
  3. Record an acoustic performance of the song (something where the audio can be clearly heard and the video can clearly be seen).
  4. Upload it to YouTube
  5. Send a the link to the Video in an email titled Songwriter Challenge by Jan. 29th to TexasMusicPickers@gmail.com

We should have all of the videos ready to showcase by the first week of February. If you have any questions feel free to give us a shout at TexasMusicPickers@gmail.com.

We’ll be hosting, or assisting, in a variety of songwriter contests, Battle of the Bands, showcases, etc…this year, so if your looking to take part in those types of thing, we suggest you subscribe to our email newsletter so you don’t miss out
