Our spotlight shines on Mike Ryan’s “Sad Song” this week. Currently at #61 on the Texas Regional Radio Report and at #18 on our Texas Music Spotify Chart, the cut is the 2nd track released to radio from Ryan’s upcoming album. Previous single, “New Hometown” was a smash hit that has racked up over 4 million streams on Spotify, and reached officially retirement from our Texas Music Spotify Chart after going #1 for 12 weeks in a row! Looking to keep the momentum going, the San Antonio, Texas native is swinging for the fences again with his new key-laced power ballad.
The emotional delivery, raw vibe of the production, and heart-gripping songwriting, make for one killer track. The somber keys really let Ryan showcase his dynamic pipes and push the track over the top! We think the tune highlights the exact talents that have lead from him performing at open mic nights in college to headlining venues like Billy Bobs.
While writing the song, Ryan knew he was on to something special. “There was an energy in the room that I haven’t seen often. We all locked in and weren’t going anywhere until we finished telling the story. By the time we were through, it had become the most real, emotional song I’d ever been a part of. We recorded it that same night as a piano/vocal and left it just the way it was for the record.” Ryan told us.
We think this one headed to the top and we want you to help us get it there by requesting in on your favorite local and online stations. If you haven’t heard the song yet, check it out below and let us know what you think. Also, stay tuned to the band’s social media for updates on the new album!
You can also hear it here on our TMP Spotify Playlist, as well as plenty of other great Texas Country, Red Dirt, and Americana!
