James Cook Offers a Front Row Seat to the Beginning of the End in “Lullaby for the Rapture”

Wichita Falls native, James Cook, released “Lullaby for the Rapture” a few weeks ago, and now that we’ve finally had some time to catch up on our listening, we’ve been able to play through it a couple dozen times….and wow!! The 6 track (one of those tracks is the full version of the EP) production unfolds an apocalyptic revival as the songs take us in to the lives of different characters and how they deal with their mortality.  Cook brings you to the “front row to the beginning of the end” as he navigates the listener through each character’s ominous journey with a unique, and compelling, mixture of soul, country, rock, Americana, and gospel.

We love the added touch of the full-version track that really allows for the concept of the album to come to life!  With haunting transitions joining each track, the 22 minute chronicle unravels much like a soundtrack to a powerful story rather than an album and is really the only way to fully appreciate it in its entirety.  What’s most impressive is Cook’s ability to have every detail from the tempo, to the choice of instrumentation, to the delivery, aiding the lyrics in telling each story.   While maintaining a haunting subtly in the entire production, each song presents powerfully, with strong characters, personality, and an in-depth narrative!

Concept albums are not easy to pull-off, as they often come off as incomplete or confusing, but Cook not only provides a complete story, he offers one that captivates the listener and has them reaching for the play button again when it concludes.

If you’re looking for a musical project that will impress you with its story-telling, powerful delivery, and completeness, then look no further!   Light a fire, dim the lights, hit play and let Cook take you in to his extraordinary project!

The album is available on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and CD Baby.  Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a copy!
