In 2016 Grady Spencer and the Work released one hell of a record in “The Line Between” and we’ve been eagerly anticipating new tunes ever since! Well, the wait is over! Tomorrow, 6/8/19, GSATW drop their third studio album, “Celebrate.” Produced by Austin Jenkins and engineered by Josh Block of Niles City Sound in Fort Worth, the record is equipped with 11 songs of smooth grooves, strong songwriting, and flavorful tunes. Spencer once again delivers a project that seeps into the soul of the listener with each passing play.
What we especially dig is just how personal and authentic the whole thing is. Nothing turns me off more than when I feel like an album, and an artist doesn’t match; (i.e., a middle-aged dude making songs about partying on a backroad). Here you get an intimate account of Spencer’s real life. After listening, you feel like you know Spencer, his family, his thoughts, and his questions. It’s honest, and it’s real, and to me, that’s the best kind of music.
“This album was written purely from the viewpoint of a 30-something-year-old dad/husband who generally is confused and perplexed about what is going on in the world, but ultimately is grounded in the love and comfort that comes from his faith and his family”, Spencer told us.
After our first playthrough, several tracks stood out to us, but the first one we immediately went back to was “Part of Me.” Spencer told us he wrote the song directly for his daughter in response to what was going on in our country at the time. “There were a lot of people going at each others’ throats in response to statements that a politician had made about women, and my message to her in response to all of this was: ‘Hey, I’m going to love you in the midst of all this madness no matter what happens. Whether you want to be a housewife or a scientist or a dancer…you’re always going to be my little girl, and that’s all that matters to me’ ”
Here are TMP we love the depth of the song, and how relatable it is to all of us that have little ones. No matter how unpredictable and hostile the world can seem at times, we want our kids to know that there will always be a loving place for them at home. We dig the way the soft, warm, and rhythmic chorus wraps the song into a soothing package that’s nothing less than “chicken soup for the soul”!
Along with the excitement of dropping a new record, the band has recently signed with powerhouse booking agency Red 11 Music! “We’re already gearing up to start branching out into South Texas and can’t wait to see what other opportunities this album opens up for me and the band,” Spencer told TMP” I’m super grateful to be in the spot where I am and am excited to see what happens next” he continued.
“Celebrate” drops tomorrow everywhere, and we definitely recommend getting your hands on it, but in the meantime enjoy an early listen to our *PICK* of the album “Part of Me” below!
