The Powell Brothers Confirm Full-Length Debut, ‘Leave On The Light’

February 15

Check out the newest release of the upcoming album!

Emerging Country/Americana music recording artist The Powell Brothers are set to release their full-length debut album ‘Leave On The Light’ on February 15. Combining elements of folk-rock, rootsy soul and country, the Houston-based band recorded this album during the aftermath and devastation of Hurricane Harvey.  Perseverance, resilience and life on the road provide the backdrop for this new collection of songs that staggers artfully between timeless arrangements and sharp songcraft showcasing a defiant, evolving band on the rise.
Recorded in Nashville at Ravens Landing, ‘Leave On The Light’ was produced by Scott Quintana and engineered and mixed by Gena Johnson (“A Star Is Born” soundtrack, Zac Brown Band, Brandi Carlile) and features ten tracks all written by Taylor Powell (lead vocals, guitar) and Blake Powell (lead guitar).  For this release, the band enlisted a bevy of notable Nashville players including legendary pedal steel guitarist Paul FranklinJosh Matheny on dobro/lapsteel; Kyle Ryan on banjo; Matt Utterback on bass; Adam Keafer on bass; Will Cafaro on bass and Quintana on drums and percussion.
“I believe you write about what you know. The life we have known for the past 8+ years, has been one lived on the road,” explains Taylor. “ From the excitement of hitting the road and the hardship of leaving home to the comfort of pulling into the driveway after a long week of travel and grime. The good and the bad of this lifestyle is really what this record is all about. It is acknowledging that we have gone through some really hard struggles, but we have persevered, and we are doing exactly what we are made to do.”
Album opener “Strange To Think” is an introspective, banjo-laden track about life choices and trajectory followed by the album’s affecting first single and love letter to their hometown of Houston, “Coming Home.”
One of the earliest songs of The Powell Brothers’ repertoire, “The Way You Are” showcases the band’s anthemic rock/pop influences while the band’s current single “Somewhere Down The Road” in nostalgia. Check it out here.
Electrifying guitar riffs and the band’s signature harmonies shine through on “Change The Ground” and “Whatever Is Left” which premieres exclusively on Spotify today – listen and share here.
The album ends with “See Me Through” – a sparse, stylistic departure from the previous tracks boasting tinges of jazz, blues and soul roots along with Taylor Powell’s warm, down-home vocals.
Hurricane Harvey definitely changed a lot of things for us,” explains Taylor. “The plans we had been making for the previous few months were completely wiped out. As we were tearing down our childhood home, there were definitely many moments of despair. But as they say, when you are going through hell, keep on going. Looking back, it actually wiped the slate clean, and gave us an opportunity to do something much greater than we had planned before. We decided to use this as a sign that it was time to make the record we had always wanted to make.”
The Powell Brothers will be burning up stages all across the country for the rest of the year and 2019 including high profile performances at the 2018 Wrangler National Finals RodeoLas Vegas Bowl andVinyl (inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino) in Las Vegas, NV; Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowland Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo in Ft Worth, TX and Valero Alamo Bowl Bash in San Antonio.
