Jordan Robert Kirk to Release “Listening for the Sound”

January 25

Jordan Robert Kirk has been touring and playing shows since 2014, predominantly in West Texas, but in other regions and states as well. Jordan draws much inspiration from his upbringing – he was raised working on a cotton farm in Crosby County, his dad is a third generation farmer and great-grandson of Hank Smith, the first settler on the South Plains. With a deep baritone that draws comparisons all over the map, and influences in bluegrass, honky tonk, gospel, and the blues, you might hear any or all of these influences in his music. Fresh out of the studio with a new single “Pine Box” and an album “Listening for the Sound” due out January 2019, JRK plans on continuing to expand his audience into the rest of Texas and beyond.
“Listening for the Sound” is a product of me sitting down to write my personal biography, and realizing I only had one song that fit what I wrote and believed. “Pine Box” got to stay out of 30 or so songs, and I went back to writing after that. This album is a culmination of my life to this point, life and love and heartache, some stories about me, some about close friends. Heavy roots influences that make it unquestionably country, but not throwback country necessarily, I like to think I’m taking 5 steps back and 1 step forward on another timeline, regaining some of what formulaic Nashville radio friendly country has lost while retaining what makes country, well, country. Real life lived by real people. Humor, love, death, belief, with reality at the forefront of all of these themes.
