We frequently get asked why we started Texas Music Pickers and usually I say it’s because we want to spread good music, but really there’s a whole lot more than that.
There’s just something so great about getting in on an artist’s “ground floor”. Going to see them when they’re playing acoustic shows for whoever will show up, maybe just playing for tips or for just enough money to cover gas. Watching as a crowd of mainly people that have never heard of that artist, slowly start to turn their heads. Watching as you hear a few “this guy/girl is pretty good”. Watching as the phones come out and the iTunes searches begin. Then watching their stock rise as they book bigger and bigger gigs. Watching their music spread and their crowds enlarge. Watching as they move from “opening acts” to “headliners”. All the while, with a big smile on your face because you knew a long time ago, they had what it took. I’m not sure about you guys, but that’s one of the best journeys in the world to watch; and I imagine if you seeing this in your you are either a part of someone’s journey or on that journey yourself – which is AWESOME!
Our goal is to get as many people as possible on the “ground floor” of the artists we write about. Our mission is to help Texas and Red Dirt musicians with that journey by spreading their music to music lovers like yourself! But we wouldn’t be doing much good if we didn’t have anyone to spread the word to. So while we do get thanked a lot from artists for what we do, it is really YOU GUYS who deserve the gratitude, as it you all who spread our content and get the info out. So for that, we just wanted to say THANK YOU!
Cheers and here’s to watching multiple journeys together!
